Nuremberg Trials
From 1946 to 1949 the Nuremburg Trials were held for the purpose of bringing Nazi war criminals to justice. The Nuremberg trials were a series of 12 trials. Altogether about 200 defendants were tried. 12 hanged, 3 life-imprisionment, and 3 more 20-30 years. The defendants, who included the Nazi Party officials and high-ranking military officers along with German industrialists, lawyers and doctors, were indicted on such charges as crimes against peace and crimes against humanity.
In the time of the trials President Roosevelt
said it is our intention that just and sure punishment shall be given out to the ringleaders responsible for the organized murder of thousands of innocent persons (Bard 18).
